Goody-Two Shoes

Sticks and stones my break my bones, but words will never hurt me. Ha!
Recently, I was asked to speak at a retreat. I was the primary speaker with another secondary speaker. I spoke the first night and felt very connected with the all the women. The next morning, the second speaker began with the words, “Who is this good-two shoes woman?” She meant me.

It was a very uncomfortable moment for everyone. Then the thought struck me funny and I started to laugh. Me a goody-two shoes? I wish! My past is black as coal dust with sin. And my everyday life is spotted with a kaleidoscope of mundane sins. It is only by the blood of Christ that I have any goodness in me at all.

God made him who had no sin to be sin for us,
so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
(2 Corinthians 5:21 NIV)

I say, “Hallelujah!” If by the power of my Jesus, I have been created into a “goody-two shoes” I take that as the highest of compliments.

Thank you for the devotion "Reckless Words". I needed to hear these words this morning. I've let bitterness, resentment and anger corrupt my heart. So today is a new day and I am going to make it a point to speak kindly about people.

Good reminders in your Reckless Words devotion. I was glad to see a line about aching for the woman full of venom. Having been the victim of abuse for 18 years God did a number in my heart and gave me a compassion for the abusers. His lesson taught me that there are SO many reasons behind why people do what they do. They can not become excuses but they are reasons. Some days there is not a big enough muzzle on my mouth. Other days His words of encouragement flow out. Being human is so screwy. Thank God He loves us---period---no conditions.

Thank you for your devotion. You reminded me that saying little is better than saying too much and then regretting my words. There is power in the quietness of a moment. My prayer today is that I can cherish the quiet and when given the opportunity to speak that I will choose words of love and encouragement! Love, Tammy

I also enjoyed your morning devotion and this post today.

How fantastic you have found your true self in the Lord and your ego dropped away from the remark so that you could laugh at the goody-two shoes remark. :D The Truth set you free.

It's tough being a Goody-Two Shoes! It's amazing the hurtful things that can be said, even by those we love, to those of us who have the goal of becoming more like Christ. The Bible says that those who take a stand for Christ and speak up for what is right will be persecuted. So, for those of you out there who are being criticized, take it as a sign that you may be doing things right!
