Pet shenanigans are a part of pet ownerships. My husband bought me two puppies in 2009. They are darling. (Identical shih-tzu sisters, Tiki and Tulip) I enjoy them more than I can say. However, we've had a few "issues". I have a third older shih-tzu named Taffy. So, it's Tiki, Tulip, and Taffy. The three T's. Am I nuts or what?

To begin with, shih-tzus tend to be a bit prissy. They don't like hot/cold weather. They are fair weather dogs. So, the recent cold rainy weather has presented a problem. They won't go on the grass to do their business. They decided that the patio would work just fine. Still I celebrate their loyal love for me.

Puppies teethe. I have bought a bazillion rawhide chews and chew toys. However, I will find them gnawing on the furniture, shoes, and anything else that looks tantalizing outside. "What is that shredded stuff on the floors?" Still I celebrate the laughter and joy they bring into my life.

Even though I have been "training" them for months, they still jump on people, lick faces and think that they should be petted and praised by everyone. (Shih-tzus love people and think they are people, too). I celebrate their unconditional acceptance of every person.

On Valentine's Day, I watched Ben Stein on the Sunday Morning Show state, "If you desire true love that is loyal and unconditional--adopt a dog." Yes, that about sums up my opinion, too.

So for those of you who celebrate the love of pets, post your pet's name and tell me why you love your pet. I will randomly pick one winner for my Bible study book, Birds in My Mustard Tree and one $15 i-tunes card.

And don't forget to check out these other Carnival Giveaways from my friends.

My beloved Lucky is gone now too but he was a solid black cat with one patch of white under his chin. His fur was sleek and shiny and he was very persnickity. One minute he would be loving up on me begging to be petted and for attention and the next he would have had enough and wanted to be left alone a dr jeckyl and mr. hyde of sorts. I think this was caused from him being left alone as a kitten while I was out working during the day and if so I am so for that but I did not have a choice. He was the most loving pet i've had in a number of years and I miss him greatly!

thanks for the chance to remember my beloved pet and enter this give away! :)

Hi Susanne,

When I adopted Striker, a lab mix, from the pound over 12 years ago, it was something I had not intended to do. I actually went to the pound with a friend who wanted to adopt a kitten for her boyfriend. When she asked to see the dogs too, I reluctantly went with her. Striker was all the way at the end and was the only dog not barking and jumping like crazy. He just lay on the ground looking very, very sad. On his cage was a sign that read "last day". So what started out as an afternoon of being supportive of a friends pet purchase, turned out to be a tugging at my heart moment when I just could not let that poor dog be executed. Needless to say, my son was elated when I came home with a dog. Striker crawled into my heart from the first moment I saw him, and has been an amazing companion ever since.

Blessings,
Toni

Logan Edward is our most fantastic Golden Retriever. He's gentle and fun with a great personality. Logan was our 1st baby and loves to play with our girls now -- he was also a great frisbee dog in his hey-dey! Our boy is nearly 11 and slows down a bit more each week. I'm greatful for every day God gives us with him.

We have 3 dogs. Bear and Tank are huge labrador retrievers, and I love them for their laid back way of taking life. Whatever works for them. If the teenagers want to wrestle, sure, they're all for that. If the toddlers want to climb on them, sure, that's great too, (not to mention toddlers share their cookies). They're just very accepting of all situations. We also have a little sweet Yorkie-poo named Chloe. She's just a sweety who loves to be in your space, but she'll gladly romp with the big dogs. She's learned to sit on them while out in the snow to keep her own fanny from freezin (HAHA). Okay... guess you can tell I LOVE my dogs.

Bella is my 4-year-old Shih-tzu/poodle mix. I begged my husband for her after only a month or two of being married. She is so cute and so spoiled. We now have two young girls - a 3-year-old and a 9 month old - and Bella has had her issues with adjusting to not being my only "baby" but she still loves to cuddle with me and knows just how to get to me with those big puppy eyes.

I could go on and on about why I love my pets. I love dogs and cats, but I happen to have cats at this point in my life.

Munchkin, Dipstick, and Lacey are my nine and a half year old gray tabby siblings and "fur babies." They've been with me through some rough stuff - the death of my Mom and my Dad moving far away - as well as some great stuff - getting married and starting a new career. Through it all, they have been the one constant in my life during years that seem more filled with transition than constancy. I love the love we have - they "get" me and I "get" them. They hang out with me all day and sleep with us at night. They love to snuggle.

But they are cats. As a wise friend once noted, "Dogs have owners. Cats have staff." :)

Warmly,
Kris

It's funny because my daughter begged for a pet. Hubby was against having a pet - now of course Nacho is officially HIS dog. It's funny to see a big, grown, man love on a chihuahua. :)

We have three - a black lab named Shadow, a white German shepherd/yellow lab mix named Shelby and a stubborn, destructive, bad, bad, bad beagle named Gracie.

Even though the two bigger dogs are well behaved, loyal, friendly and lazy...well Gracie has my heart. I tell her all the time that if Beagles weren't so stinking cute, Noah would have never let them on the ark. Kind of loving the unlovable :)

I don't have a pet at this time because i have four boys under 6..when the youngest gets a little older we'll hopefully get a beagle or something...
I had a doberman/shephard mix his name was "Fish" (I know - my uncle name him) but when he was a puppy and I'd visit my aunt and uncle he would come sit at my feet. My uncle said he's your dog! He was a blast...run around the yard like a crazy dog...but guarded the property so no one came in - back in my single days...

We also had a solid black gsd male, jake- He got cancer and we had to put him to sleep- awful. German shepherds are wonderful dogs to have.

I have two cats - Jekyll and Meiska. Jekyll definitely has two personalities - the loving, sweet, want to cuddle in your lap type and the adventurous personality which is the reason I have child-safety locks on my oven. Once while I was sleeping he boiled water in my teapot for me - without asking permission of course! Meiska is a total lap cat and makes everyone feel welcome in my home.

We had two parakeets named Fred and Ginger - sadly we got the sex wrong and named the Girl Fred. These parakeets brought my children so much joy, until the sad day when the cage blew off it's outside hanger and the cage split open and the birds escaped. I hope they enjoyed their moments of freedom. We now have a sweet cat named Samantha who is 12 years old, two aquatic frogs, two goldfish, and a Beta fish. Our pets are becoming fewer, for I refuse to replace any - my children are going off to college, and I am hoping to ease care taking duties. Fortunately the ball python and leopard gekko were given to "good homes." Hoping your day is blessed.

My Dog, a german shepherd/chow-chow mix named Nikita, has been my baby girl for 13 years. She has been such a joy to us! She wasn't happy about the fact that she has to train our son, but after 8 years, she felt she had him off to a great start and could retire. Unfortunately, we then brought home our baby girl. Let's just say, she is less-than joyous about training up another child in her elder years. She is being very patient with her, but often runs to our son's room and hides on his rug to nap. She gives us these looks that ask...WHY ME? :)

Thanks for participating in the carnival! Have a great day!

I have a yorkie shih-tzu mix named Bentley. He is a feisty one with a strong personality. I enjoyed hearing your description of your shih-tzu's because he really does have those traits. He believes he is a person. Insists on chewing chewie's in your lap and no where else. Thinks all shoes are his to eat (he ate my steve madden heals, oh what a sad day). Sits on ALL of the furniture. Barks when he wants something. Pulls the dish around the kitchen when he wants food. Rings a bell to go outside. Licks uncontrollably, generally on my face, which I really dislike. But I LOVE him. He is so sweet :)

Thanks for sharing pictures :) I love dogs!

I love our new pit bull puppy! Her name is Macie and she is 2 mos old. I felt like such a hypocrite when my husband brought her home because I HATE the stereotype of these "vicious" dogs. Instead, I have realized why God tells us not to judge. She is the biggest sissy/prissy dog imaginable. My husband knows his dogs and always wanted one (they actually used to be America's dogs) for the babies (7 and 5) to grow up with. I was adamant that we would NEVER have one.
She has grown (in the 3 weeks we have had her) to be a lovable member of the family. She will gently play swords and be attacked by dinosaurs, courtesy of my 5 year old son. She will politely stand on my daughters dresser as my daughter tries to dress her in doll clothes. And she sits at my feet late at night as I stay up doing schoolwork (I am in nursing school with all online classes). Lastly, she sleeps at the feet of my husband and I. She has woken us up to do her business (every day at 5 AM), but we really don't mind to have a reason for our children to go run around outside, someone to hear and warn us when there are people/animals around the house, and an extra source of stress relief.
And I now know what acceptance is all about!

Chip, he has been our 5th child since February 2005, he was my valentine gift that year. Chip is a dachshund/beagle mix. He is the smartest most wonderful dog in the world, although, we joke that he is becoming a "grumpy old man dog" lately.

Lucy is our newest addition. She is a 9 week old lab/german shepherd mix. Being a puppy, she is still learning, she likes to give *love* nibbles, chew on anything she can find, including my awesome pink croc flip flops, and just generally torture Chip by trying to play with him.

Both of them bring us such joy and love. That unconditional love just because they are, and we are.

Hi,
We also have two shih-tzus...they are a trip! Wow, are they demanding of our attention! But we love to give it to them. The older is Daisy, 12 years old. She loves everybody. She is very prissy, too...won't get her feet wet in the rain. With all the snow we've been having, we've used the snow blower to create a "shih-tzu path" or they will also go on the patio. Our other baby, Cocoa, is 8. She is our "neurotic" shih-tzu. She is scared of any foreign object lying on the floor, or any new person who comes over. We love these little dogs! When my husband married me almost 12 years ago, he quickly fell in love with the breed, much to his surprise. He says they have all the perks of a big dog but in a small package!

I emailed some breeders and found that they had a waiting list for even the pet quality with a pricetag of $2000. Sigh. God knows the desires of my heart. Less than a month later.... Ranger simply appeared in my hay field. Even though our 3 farm dogs surrounded him and barked at him, he would not leave. He had no ID. No one in the whole county had any idea where he came from. He knew he was home and immediately became my dog. I have always had dogs and the children have very sweet dogs, but Ranger is Mom's dog and he knows it. :)

Libby, my mini schnauzer. <3 I was going through a deep depression with my seperation, now divorced husband. I had not come to the Lord at that time in my life but I now know that God gave her to me during this time on earth. I found Libby at a local animal shelter. All scruffy and shaggy just like me. I took her in and loved her. But what I didn't realize was that she was doing the same thing to me. Loving me right back. I love Libby. Thank you Jesus for my "little pork chop"!

God's Peace

I love my boxer puppy, he was a rescue about a year ago. He is so gentle, well mannered, obedient and loving, as well as protective. He is great with my children and my sisters cats...in fact, the kitty and him play often, and he is even gentle with him. mgwin2008@yahoo.com
thanks! God bless you.

Our family has three golden retrievers that are either certified or in training as therapy dogs. They are part of or family and we appreciate the unconditional love they offer us and the folks we visit with them. We are excited to be adding a Pomeranian to our mix soon. I dreamed last week that we named her JOY because of the joy she was going to bring to so many. (And in our home Joy also stands for JESUS, OTHERS, YOURSELF.) Loved this post. Thanks for sharing your pups with us. You can see mine at our blog: www.agapepettherapy.blogspot.com .

We have 3 cats and 1 dog. Our dog, Scout, is an American Eskimo and has to be the sweetest dog I have ever known. His love is like God's love, so unconditional. He is almost 12 years old and has been going blind for the last few years, but he still runs around like a playful pup and just loves on us and even the cats...and they love him too...lol

I have 2 dogs, Shasta and Rusty. Rusty was my birthday gift and he is my little buddy. I adopted him and he adopted me. Shasta is a sweetie too.
Thanks, Debbie

Love your post! I have TWO Chihuahuas - one long hair, fawn & white, the other is all white, short-hair with some Terrier mixed in. I love them because they show unconditional love, are always excited to see me, and are HILARIOUSLY entertaining!

Yeah, for pets!!! Yesterday, I was trained so I can volunteer at the local Humane Society...very excited about helping pets find a forever home.

Breezy is a schnoodle (schnauzzer poodle mix) - a designer puppy to say the least. My son and I stumbled upon Breezy in a pet store. For 14 days we visited with Breezy at the pet store until we finally had a peace that she was the puppy for us. She's been a ball full of energy and it was love at first sight. She's almost 5 yrs old and you'd never know she's anything but a puppy. We love her for the joy and comfort she brings to the family. Whenever one of us is ill, she's the first one called upon to bring comfort. It's so nice to know there are others that share such a great love for their pets.

Tux is not actually my pet. He belongs to my sister and her husband, who I am living with at this time. He's a Boston Terrier, and without a doubt he's a human trapped in a dog's body. I love Tux, because his sheer intelligence just reminds me of how beautiful God is!

Ms. Susanne~

Unfortunatley, I do not have a pet. I've wanted a puppy for a LONG time, but to no avail. I did have a fish as a young girl. So, if I cannot/do not win the give away, I'll settle for one of your prissies. :) SOOOO cute!!!

My cat Rusty is a great friend. He just loves to cuddle up on my lap.

No pets in my house right now, but I remember having a cat when I was a girl. She was so laid back.

I have two little boys and the oldest likes dogs. This combined with my husband having had dogs as pets when he was young mean we will probably have one sometime in the future. Your dogs are very cute by the way!

I hope this qualifies as a comment about pets but if not, I congratulate whichever pet owner wins the giveway:)

Oh gosh Susanne, they and YOU are so stinkin cute!
I love them! Precious.
My sweet dogs are so very spoiled too....and are having a hard time with all the snow we are experiencing right now. It's 3-4 ft high...going potty is a nightmare. Especially for our little poodle. It's also probably a little funny to people when I let them back in and ask them to moon walk on a towel to get all the snow off.
Yea....they are not really picking up on the dance moves.

I have a 9 year old lab Maggie and a 6 year old poodle named Lizzy!

My one and only pet, Riply, a beautiful golden retriever died many years ago and we haven't been able to have a dog since. Riply was a wonderful, loyal dog.

I have 3 Jack Russell Terriers, Jack, Milo and JellyBean. I love them all but jellybean is "mine". As you may know the Jack Russell Terriers can be very hyper little dogs but JellBean has learned that I don't like having them jumping all over me. She will come and jus lay at my feet to be petted. She is the sweetest thing ever (next to my kids.)

My dog, Sylvia. I adopted her from our local humane society. She has been an awesome dog and a great friend. She kept me company when I was struggling with my girls visiting their dad after our divorce. I love her very much.

I am always thinking about the things in our lives that God clearly Orchestrates. These things can be big or small, these things can be crazy to one person and perfectly sane to the next. These things can be about a "Dog" and mine was a dog named "Bam Bam". God used this dog in away that could only be Him. He orchestrated the power of His unconditional love by bringing two women/two families together in a Christ filled relationship, and He did it through using a dog. Now this was not any special dog, infact Bam Bam was mean, unlovable and had a heart filled with anger. It took one night sitting by Bam Bam's side loving this blonde & white Shitzu, unconditionally. Bam Bam became my "God Orchestrated Story". Although Bam Bam is no longer with us, and I have since moved away and lost contact with my dear friend. I will never forget how she unconditionally loved me, with my heart filled with anger.
